IPowerweb / IPower clients enduring massive problems

Thu, 17th May 2007, 14:49

It seems that IPowerweb / IPower clientele are experiencing massive problems since Friday of last week. According to several Hostjury readers users of the IPowerweb / IPower service have been unable to check their e-mail since late Friday evening.

According to our sources it appears that Endurance International Group went ahead with their planned server migration without notifying any of their clients! The result is continuous problems and issues, clients unable to check their e-mail & unable to login to their web hosting accounts.

One IPowerweb / IPower user stated that technical support seems oblivious to the migration stating that the issues were a result of "Corrupt passwords" and would be handled within a few hours. Over five days later and the problems are still occurring.

We suppose the Endurance International Group name has another possible meaning. Just how long can their clientele endure problems!

I have four websites and I must have recommended at least 5 others over the last two years. I have an online training business and I rely heavily on my website for day-to-day business. Every time it goes down I loose a lot of money. Please count me in on any legal action you all decide to take against IPOWERWEB. I agree that the world must be informed of their bad business and our ongoing ordeal. I am contemplating a mass email to invite every one to this forum if they are considering web hosting with IPOWERWEB.

Since friday Nov 23, 2007 my website was moved to the new platform and since then I am unable to connect to the MySQL. on the older platform the MySQL connect script was "localhost:3306", "DBA_USER", "password" does anybody know the new connect string?

maybe we can help each other.

    Juliet,

I admit there isn't much of a 'loop' at the moment, we'll be opening a forum here on HostJury soon though so things can get a bit more organized.

In the meantime if anyone has any information regarding a potential class action suit don't hesitate to contact me at feedback@hostjury.com

  3. Juliet Says:

Thank you David. My email is julietrutig@aol.com. I would like to be in the loop with what is happening here.

    Juliet & others,

The quickest way to probably get your funds returned to you is to perform a chargeback with your credit card company.

Note that if you currently register or renew your domain name itself through ipower -- a chargeback would be something I'd avoid.

Otherwise it seems like it might be one of the only ways. They're nonresponsive.

HOW GOOD TO FIND YOU PEOPLE. I though I was losing my mind dealing with ipower. I have been working with them over a month trying to fix my retail site THAT THEY DESTROYED THEMSELVES. What idiot suvant decided Nov and Dec as good months to screw around with retail. I'll spare my sob story becasue it makes me too angry just thinking about it. My question to everyone here is.... HOW CAN WE GET BACK THE MONEY AND TIME THEY BASICALLY STOLE FROM US? I want to be included in the class action suit as well, I will GLADLY do what is needed. This is the only way we are going to stop crooks like this!!!!!!

  6. Richard M. Stewart Says:

Please include me in the class-action suit. What a mess! Richard

I've been trying to get a refund of $176.23 from IPower.Com since June 14,2007,for charging me for renewal of domain names that I did not want and did not request.Recently they put another 95.40 charge on my c.card for domain hosting of glamakazes.com that I had cancelled in June and that they "confirmed" at that time that I had cancelled! That domain name no longer exists on the web (or as my property) and hasn't since June 07 - so why would I pay 95.40 for web hosting it? I've written them a dozen or more emails so far and all I get is double talk and nonsense from them.I sincerely believe they're just trying to Screw Me out of my money!!! They're obviously incredibly incompotent also at IPower so I'm wondering if this has this happened to anyone else?

I hav ebeen using them for a few years and had NOTHING but problems from day one. I should have left them a long time ago, but the thought of trying to transfer all of that data to a new host always seemed to put me off. I am now however seeking a new host and looking into my options, as I have more problems in the past few weeks than I can keep track of. Failed logins, my passwords don't work and the site keeps reverting back to old versions from a year a go. Email accounts dissapear for no reasons and passwords stop working(probably due to the site reverting to older copies when these accounts did't exist). Trying to keep up with them is more trouble than its worth and I have many times thought to just cancel my site and throw in the towel. Instead I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. If anyone knows of a good lawyer that handles cases specific to the internet and hosting, I would be happy to know becasue I have read enough horror stories recently that I think there needs to be a class action suit against them. I can not run a business using iPower, and I feel sorry for anyone who has tried to do so. Customer data redundancy and backups are a must for any business, but don't count on iPower to keep yoir files current. Not even current to the past 6 months. Sometimes the site is down for over a week on end, and when it does come back up, I can't even tell how old the backup is they ar eusing because I spend another week trying to get them to reset my login. Once in, all my files ane gone and most of my email accounts vanish.

Anyone wanting to go in on a class action suite please let me know. - xxcrackheadxx@gmail.com

Wow! On one hand, I'm somewhat relieved to know that I'm not the only one experiencing problems with Ipower, but on the other I realize that I need to seriously consider moving my hosting elsewhere. You know, I've had domains and sites with them for years, but it is insane how fast the crap has hit the fan! This whole transition is a joke! I lost all email and web functionality. I've called and emailed and have only had temporary fixes at this point. My business is 95% web-based and I simply cannot afford to have any downtime. I've spent hours on the phone with their tech support with very little progress.

At first I was excited when I heard that they were enchancing their hosting, but now I wish they had just left it how it was when I didn't have any problems. All the best to each of you with your site issues. It's time to take things into our own hands. Count me in if you put together a class action suit. I've spent hundreds of dollars with them and most recently paid for TWO years of hosting up front. It's like they are trying to get as much money out of their clients while they still can.

I am outraged at ipower - I have let all their past problems slide. This is the last straw - my business will go elsewhere now.

    Chris,

Well, if you happen to do an investigative report don't hesitate to contact us here at HostJury.

We would love to publish it.

  12. Chris Says:

YES!!!! If you are reading these comments for the first time. They ARE TRUE!!

They will not return my e-mails.

My user name was given to another website

before I ever canceled. I think they are fraudulent. I was on hold for 75 minutes tonight. Their billing will never pick up.(Opt3) When I finally did get someone, and tried to tell them all thats happened, they transferred me. .....TO NO ONE.

But beleive you me...their sales will pick up(opt1)

I cannot beleive what some of the people

that are the author of these comments have been through!

Something is seriously wrong. I'm thinking of doing an investigative report on them.

  13. Brodie Says:

I'm glad I saw this blog, I am a non-business user, had an email account I used once in a while, but which is now unavailable. What's sad is that the only way they could have caused the problems we all have is to take the servers and sell them, and the building, the desks, and the phone system, put 1 chump answering phones after a 2 hour wait, and never deliver any services again - services which we all paid for in advance.

  14. sebar Says:

I was an Ipowerweb customer since the year 2000. They were friendly back than and for years the site was great, tech support was no more than five minutes averaging most of the time a minute and a half. I had several websites through them.

    valleyhaunts.net

    tpb3d.net

    authorspen.net

    sebar.com

    jtwalsh.org

    mantacars.org

and the sites worked well for a long time. In 2006 there was an L.A. power outage and the first problem came about when my sites were down back than all day. They didn't have a server out of town which was a first bad sign. Later in 2006 they screwed up and removed the pointing for my subdomains which further I had to correct, but still not bad. Things after that worked very well and in April of 2007 I decided to pre pay for 5 years hosting with them in advance. In June the first week, I began getting mysql errors and my forums, chats and wikipedia sites were down. Called them with a 30 minute wait and the sites were back up. But than this began happening twice or more per week, and again a half hour on the phone. It continued through about a month ago when I located many issues in google. What pushed me to leave was I had two hour plus waits online. I got a guy named Ryan in tech support one evening after 2 and a half hours and he said that Ipower only resets the mysql three times than no more and that my sites would stay down. I asked him if he ever heard of attorneys and he pleasantly hung up on me. After two hours, eight years a customer, referred many others to them, pre paid 5 years worth of service and to be treated like that. I cannot tell you how very angry I was, I could have nearly had a storke and my family never saw me that angry before. But I bided my time. First I located a new host, than I got to Ipower after 2 plus hours again. At this point my files had all been moved and the old databases backed up, transferred, so ironically I got Ryan. I asked for the transfer codes for my domain names and re-hosted them elsewhere. I have since had no issues with the new host and their tech support is answered in a few minutes not hours. Unfortunately I had paid for an extended service just before I was aware the Ipower had been sold to the dirty rotten scumbags running it now. What I can tell you is your only option is to run. I have seen their kiosks which are ultra confusing and I have seen and worked in their new Vdeck and it really has become much more confusing to use. Anything is better than what you get at Ipower and any host you can find cannot be much worse than the way their technician Ryan treated me that faithful and long frustrating helpless evening. Just get your site away from them before it is too late and you are treated as I was and thousands who visit and use my sites and were denied that free usage by the host of Ipower.

    Good luck!!!

  15. The Viking Says:

Piss on 'em. Their transition kiosk is just another pointless link in an endless chain of pointless links.

I've spent no less than an hour (and often more than two) on hold a half dozen times in the past ten days to try and get an answer as to how to access our sites and the result is a string of e-mails changing both the user name and password, none of which work.

It's very difficult to not question the concept and wisdom of globalization when what it really provides is anonymous management. It's time for some accountability. Who's got a match?

  16. Andrew Says:

What other hosting company transfers your phone call to an endless loop where you spend the next 2 hours (yes, 2 hours and 7 minutes) waiting for an answer that never comes. Ipower has some serious issues they will need to address if they really hope, under the new ownership, to retain their client base.

We've already transferred many sites to other companies in the past several months. We still have a bunch with Ipower, but, believe me, this transition is revealing that Ipower doesn't really give much care about its customers. You almost feel, sometimes, like you're a nuisance to them.

We're looking into some of the smaller, independent hosts out there--there are pros & cons, but after ipower, the friendly customer service of the small mas & pas might just be worth it.

  17. Hostjury Admin Icon david Says:

    Bryan,

Quite frankly, run. You won't find a solution to it -- other than escape. The company seems to have gone down the drain after the buyout and they're well beyond the point of no return.

  18. bryan Fotographer Says:

Is what I'm reading real? Are you telling me after hanging on a phone for over 2 hours and not getting someone on the line, that I nothing to look forward to but a number of days without my business emails?

Is anyone available to comment on the real state of affairs of this massive breakdown?

I'd like to find a solution and fast!

  19. John Bartley Says:

My website email accounts are not working. It was next to impossible to get ahold of support, but, once I did, they don't seem interested in fixing the problem -- I'm just supposed to wait until the migration is over!

  20. robert mair Says:

i tried to piont my dns to another server so i can get my website up and found out that ipower parked it at sedoparking.com
